Athena

athena.jpg       Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill, was Zeus’s favorite child. Athena’s mother was Metis, Zeus’s first wife. Fearing that Metis would have a son stronger then Zeus, he swallowed her. Metis began making a robe and helmet for her daughter. When Zeus was suffering from horrible headaches, he cried out in agony. His son, , came to his father’s need. He split open his father’s head and out came Athena, all grown up and dressed.

Her and Poseidon loved a city in Greece. So they both claimed the city and they decided that the god to give the best gift would have the city. So Poseidon hit a cliff and springs fell from it, but the water was very salty and useless. Athena gave them an olive tree. The olive tree gave the people food, oil and wood. So Athena won and named the city Athens.
